The Jane Hodgkinson Scholarship Fund
“With scholarship demands increasing 49% for summer and fall seasons between 2011 and 2012, the importance of raising funds to support scholarships continues to be critical. It must continue to be a focus for the WDSRA Foundation.”
Lea Jackman, Superintendent of Communications and Development
UPDATE
During FY11-12, the WDSRA Foundation has raised more than $76,000 for the Jane Hodgkison Scholarship Fund campaign. We are grateful to the many individuals and businesses that have made contributions.
But our job is not done. We continue to see so many families struggling when it comes to paying for the participation that is vital to their everyday development. With the increasing demand for financial support, the WDSRA Foundation has made a commitment to support families in their time of need. Please continue to keep scholarships a focus of your charitable giving.
WHO
Access to programs has always been near and dear to former WDSRA Executive Director Jane Hodgkinson's heart. Your support of the Jane Hodgkinson
Scholarship Fund will honor Jane’s legacy of leadership and provide significant support to children and adults with special needs who depend upon WDSRA programs to enrich their lives. Support is needed to provide recreational opportunities for those who are facing financial challenges. Through WDSRA programs, individuals with special needs grow as individuals, develop as part of a team and discover their capabilities.
WHAT
Raise a minimum of $100,000 in scholarship monies. Scholarships are awarded to individuals who have proven financial need.
WHY
Over the past 3 years, scholarship requests have more than tripled. In 2008, requests totaled $7,000; in 2009, $11,000 and in 2010, $25,000. Currently, scholarships provide funding of 50% of program costs for up to 3 programs per season. The newly established Adopt-a-Participant program provides full scholarships for those demonstrating extreme need.
